We should hope and pray that we never have to endure the sort of persecution experienced by the early Christians.
But if we do, will we be prepared? We can be, if we take to heart the words of the apostle Peter as found in his epistle. We have every reason, to rejoice in times of persecution. But for us to make the most of such situations, we need not only to "rejoice", but also to "reflect on the words of Christ about being persecuted for His name sake".
As someone once said, "First comes the cross, and then comes the crown." "For if, as the Bible says, they persecuted the prophets who were before you" don't be surprised if you find yourself facing ridicule, ostracism, and even physical persecution for the cause of Christ.
Weekly Verse: Paul said to the church of Galatia “Yea and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution”. 2 Timothy 3:12
Weekly Quote: If you are being persecuted because you’re a Christian, blessed are yea among men. |

There have been multiple times recently I have heard complaints toward the ‘Religious Right’ (at least they know we’re right) that we talk about getting back to our religious heritage. They go on to quote writings which state that most of the Founders were Deists and the few that were not Deists were not Christians. The problem with those views is that they quote writings from the 1950’s and 1970’s that are telling about the Founders. There is a website – I won’t mention because I don’t want to give them credit – and the quotes they use are from a book written in 1976 which contained no footnotes for their information.

On Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 to 8:30, we have been going through a teaching on the book by W. Cleon Skousen called, ‘The 5000 Year Leap’. It is based upon years of research in over 1500 writings from our Founders as to what they meant when they wrote and/or voted for the Constitution for the United States of America.
We are watching a DVD series by Earl Taylor, the current president of the National Center for Constitutional Studies, teaching American Government to the senior class of Heritage Academy in Mesa, Arizona. It is a fully accredited course that can be used by High School seniors for one semester credit for school. Each session lasts about 30 minutes and then we discuss the teaching and compare it to current events with our government.
